The first bird images I caught on our vacation were along our cruise of the Missouri River in Montana and the Gate of the Rocky Mountains. I laughed when the guide told me the bird overhead was a California Sea Gull. Being in Montana and seeing Sea Gulls from Californa struck me as funny!
These majestic birds were named the Utah State Bird in 1955. These birds were probably chosen as the state bird because
they saved the state and its people from crickets in 1848. There is a monument, the Seagull Monument on Temple Square, in Salt Lake City honoring the gull where two sculptured gulls stand atop the monument.
