Do you know what ‘wilderness’ really is? Have you been to or seen extensive areas of our planet that are completely unsettled, uncultivated and left in its natural condition? it is a rarity to find wilderness areas except in national parks in these United States and for that reason Congress has worked since the early 1900s to preserve and protect wilderness areas within our country for the benefit of present and future generations of Americans. The congressional acts allow for management of our wilderness resources to maintain natural conditions and scenic beauty so the public can always enjoy these resources.
These pictures show the raw wilderness of Yellowstone, Arches, and Canyonlands National Parks. Frequent sights include dead trees standing, falling, and lying on the ground. Removal of the dead trees is not a part of wilderness management. Leaving the wilderness to nature is the rule.
